If you are a tourist in town you would never hear about this wonderful little restaurant.  This is a Coeur d’Alene’s secret.

The food at the Garnet Cafe is better than good, it’s Outstanding!  The bad news it’s so good and the restaurant is so small that the wait can make you hungry.  But is worth the wait.  This is a breakfast restaurant.  With traditional breakfast done right!

When they offer you a coffee while you are waiting for a table, you might want to pass and order a Bellini, a sweet tangy blend of peach nectar and Prosecco.  Which comes in a wine glass for $6.  Such a treat.

The building is a converted cottage with an inviting, homegrown look with hanging flowers on the outside deck with a fireplace.

The Garnet Cafe Coeur d’Alene is famous for its FARM to TABLE best practice.  I met a couple who came to CDA from New York and heard about the farm to table reputation in their hometown.  They just had to give it a try.

The menu is divided into sections with basic breakfast combinations, omelets, and all the other American breakfast favorites.  The omelets are named after North Idaho venues.  The Bonner omelet is a vegetarian favorite. A hot omelet flavored with herb goat cheese and filled with sautéed spinach, zucchini, eggplant and creative vegetables.

Veggies are served with every breakfast item, including red peppers, mushrooms, and onions to add extra flavor to their Northwest potatoes that come with every egg dish.

This is not your greasy spoon restaurant and even the thick slices of applewood smoked bacon are lean and meaty but not greasy.

Spaghetti is not normally found on a breakfast menu, but Garnet does, and does it right!  The pasta is mixed with sun-dried tomatoes, roasted garlic, fresh basil and red pepper.  Added to that are fresh parmesan and herbed goat cheese that is melted into the pasta.

The wait inside this small and crowded breakfast nook can be frustrating until the food is served.  How about the french toast stuffed with 3 kinds of berries and sweet creme cheese and topped with vanilla whip creme.  This will put a smile on your face no matter how long you waited.

Pork tenderloin sounds more like lunch or dinner but Garnet Cafe adds sweetness with maple apple pecan sauce and eggs and toast.  I hope you get my point why the Garnet Cafe is the best breakfast in Coeur d’Alene.
