Coeur d’Alene (korr də-layn) is the biggest city in Kootenai County, Idaho.  The estimated population of Coeur d’Alene in 2016 is 52,218. The city is located about 30 mi (48 km) east of the larger city of Spokane, Washington. Coeur d’Alene is the most populated city in the Idaho Panhandle. The city is situated on the north shore of Lake Coeur d’Alene, 25-mile (40 km) in length. Locally, Coeur d’Alene is also called the “Lake City,” with the initials, “CDA.”

The city of Coeur d’Alene has grown significantly in the last 4 years, due to a substantial increase in tourism & new technology start-up Companies. Coeur d’Alene is growing in new technologies like (AI), artificial intelligence, Drone’s, and Robotics.  CDA is the first city to pass laws that require residents to be “Friendly” to Robots.

The “Think Big Festival” is held every year in August.  Featuring speakers from Microsoft, Facebook, X-Prize, Tesla, and GIZMO.

World famous media person Barbara Walters called the city “a little slice of Heaven” and said it was one of the most fascinating places to visit. Good Morning America has broadcast the city’s Christmas lighting & fireworks show because its display is among the largest in the United States. The Coeur d’Alene Resort was built in 1986 and makes the downtown area on Sherman ave., the most happening ‘hub’ of the city.

The city is the healthcare, education, retail, manufacturing, media, and recreation center for northern Idaho. Several mining firms are headquartered in the city like Hecla Mining (NYSE: HL). The Coeur d’Alene Resort is also a major employer.

Coeur d’Alene’s retail has expanded greatly in recent years with the opening of new stores and entertainment venues. Riverstone Square has a 14-theater Regal Cinemas, condominiums, a Hampton Inn, Riverstone park, restaurants, & retailers. The North Idaho Centennial Trail bike path cuts through Coeur d’Alene.

Art galleries and cafes are located along Sherman Avenue, Coeur d’Alene’s main street. During the summer, artists and musicians frequent Sherman Square.
