Huckleberries look a lot like blueberries but are smaller and much sweeter. Huckleberries only grow in special climate areas at higher elevations in acidic mountain soil.  Huckleberries cannot be homegrown in your garden.  Every berry must be hand-picked as they do not grow in bunches. Huckleberries are very hard to find and can sell for as much as $20 dollars a pint at the local farmers market.

Huckleberries and sweetly delicious and were made famous by the Huckleberry Hound cartoon with Yogi Bear.  Remember Yogi Bear was always out trying to steal huckleberry pies from the campers in Yellowstone park.  Picking Huckleberries is always an outdoor adventure and a great family experience.  Drive up into the high mountains from CDA Idaho in the summertime. There is the best technique to picking Huckleberries: a one-handed method where you pluck each berry between your index finger and thumb and scoop it into the palm of your hand. After you pick a handful then drop them into your bucket.
