Whew, you still with me?

Let’s take a breath and continue the adventure.

I know I sound overly excited about Coeur d’Alene Idaho, but I am.  Mostly because of where I came from.  Mainly because I lived in Southern California for 40 years and I ran a business in Los Angeles.  Then I got married and had 3 children.  This changed everything and woke me up!

I realized how bad California was becoming and

I did not want my kids to grow up in the mess.

So my wife and I made the decision to move.  We made a list of cities that might be a good fit for us.  Went online and joined local CDA blogs and read all the information we could find.  Then we took vacations to investigate the cities on our list to see for ourselves first hand.

After 2 trips to Coeur d’Alene, we pulled the trigger.  We rented a house in CDA for 1 year and rented out our California home for the same term.  Leaving the door open if we decided to move back. And we have been here almost 9 years now.  We don’t miss CA. one bit and we are happy with the lifestyle choice we made.

Needless to say, we LOVE Coeur d’Alene Idaho!

Here are more stories from people who moved to CDA.

When Sherry Rose retired last summer from her job in the Bay Area, she and her husband moved to a wooded area. They had visited CDA only a few months before on a vacation and quickly fell in love with it. Idaho reminded her of the California she knew in the 1970s. “It’s kind of like a better time that’s gone by,” Sherry said.

It’s a much slower pace, and people are more down to earth here.”  Sherry and her Husband are 62.  The house they bought is on a quiet cul-de-sac and is twice as big and half as expensive as the one she sold in California.

Sherry said; “I did not feel safe because of the crime in San Francisco.”  Sherry instantly felt at home in this small town. She said there are a lot of like-minded Christians. And as she’s gotten older, to her surprise, she’s become more conservative.

Sherry was also struck by just how many ex-Californians live here. They are everywhere: the business owners, the retirees at the golf resorts. And her neighbors.

I immediately tell people who are not from California, I am not one of those people

who want to change CDA, I love it the way it is, that’s why we’re here.”

Then there is C.J. Buck, who moved his entire business, Buck Knives, from Southern California to Idaho. Buck decided to move his manufacturing business primarily because workers comp taxes were getting too high.  In California, Buck said; businesses are almost treated as a necessary evil.

The beauty of Idaho is, you just never lose connection; it’s the people who need the jobs who are the ones voting on the issues.

Buck loves Idaho & CDA where he finds awesome, hard-working employees!

Mark is a single father raising 2 teenage boys.  He moved to Coeur d’Alene Idaho from Los Angeles County after his boys started getting in trouble with the police.  “When my oldest son went to jail for the second time, I just packed up and moved.”  He rented a condo near downtown and put his sons in Coeur d’Alene High School.

Mark got a job in 2 months.  Making less money than he did in CA.

but the cost of living is half of what it was in Los Angeles.

The first thing I did was enroll my kids in a hunters safety class, bought them both hunting rifles, a two-seater ATV and gave them a map of the best places to hunt.”  Mark’s oldest son took to hunting like a pro. And when he learned that he cannot hunt if he has a felony record.  He has not been in trouble with the law since!

Mark said; “On the weekends I don’t even see my boys

because they are out hunting or fishing.”

Coeur d’Alene high school has been a wonderful experience for my boys.  They have many great friends and they all hang out together.  And my sons are not getting into trouble.

Mark says; “I recently bought a home for $275,000.00

with some land and I call it my castle.

I can’t believe what I was able to buy for the money.”

Coeur d’Alene feels like one of nature’s most glorious theme parks.  With small town charm and the added excitement of the wild!
